Stygian Group

About us

How it started

Stygian Group began at sea. Our founder spent years working as a first mate and master on vessels, and he kept running into the same weak spots on the paperwork side of the job. Forms not being filled in on time or at all. Records lived in three places at once. Too much of every week went on double handling and chasing people up for signatures.

So in his spare time on board, between watches, he started sketching a better way with an idea and a notepad. That idea turned into a plan, and the plan became his first app.

Getting from idea to development took years. Stygian Group was self-funded from the ground up, built on his own savings and hard work. There are no investors, so we answer only to the people who use what we build.

Today we have apps in development, each made to take the busywork off people who'd rather be doing the real job.

What our name means

Stygian means "of the Styx". In Greek mythology, Styx was the great river of the underworld and the goddess of that river, the eldest daughter of the Titans Oceanus and Tethys.

When Zeus called the gods to stand with him against the Titans, Styx was the first to arrive, bringing her children Victory, Rivalry, Strength and Force. To honour her loyalty, Zeus made her waters the great oath of the gods. A promise sworn on the Styx could not be broken, not even by the gods themselves.

That's what our name stands for: the unbreakable vow. When we tell you what our software will do, we mean it, and we stand behind it.

And our work carries her children with it: Victory, Rivalry, Strength and Force.
